Who it suits

For people who drink their kahwa without sugar

A bitter and sour kahwa, the two tastes Ayurveda says most modern meals lack. Made to be drunk plain.

When to drink it Morning, or half an hour after lunch or dinner. One or two cups a day.
Best season Vasanta, the spring, when Kapha melts and bitter, astringent tastes are favoured; and Sharad, the autumn, for Pitta.
How it tastes Bitter first, then sour amla and citrus peel, with cinnamon warmth. Unsweetened.
Go gently if you are on regular medication. Ask your doctor before drinking it daily, as gurmar, giloy and methi can add to the effect of some medicines. Not for pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Questions

Questions, answered plainly

Why is it bitter?

Gurmar, giloy, methi and brahmi are all bitter herbs. Bitter (tikta) is one of Ayurveda's six tastes, and this blend is built around it.

Can I add sugar or honey?

You can, but it is made to be drunk plain. If you're new to bitter cups, start with half a teaspoon.

Does it have caffeine?

No. There is no tea leaf in it.

Why does sweet food taste odd after a cup?

That is gurmar. It briefly dulls the tongue's sense of sweetness for a short while, which is how it got its name. It passes.

Can I drink it if I'm pregnant or on medication?

Not in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. On any regular medication, please ask your doctor before making it a daily cup.
