Who it suits

For anyone who wants the classical formula itself

Dashamoola as the texts describe it, with nothing added. Woody, earthy and quietly bitter, it is for people who want the formula, not a flavoured tea.

When to drink it Morning or evening. One cup a day.
Best season Varsha, the monsoon, and Hemanta, early winter, the seasons the texts associate with rising Vata.
How it tastes Woody and earthy, gently bitter and astringent. Honey, added once it is warm, makes it easier.
Go gently if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or on regular medication. Ask your doctor or vaidya first.

Questions

Questions, answered plainly

What is dashamoola?

"Ten roots": five from trees, called the greater five (bṛhat pañcamūla), and five from small plants, the lesser five (laghu pañcamūla). Together they are one of the most used formulas in Ayurveda.

Why does gokshura use the fruit, not the root?

In practice gokshura's fruit, the small spiny gokhru, is what is used in place of the root. That is how it is sold and used in Ayurvedic pharmacies.

Does it have caffeine?

No. Only roots.

Can I sweeten it?

Yes. Stir in honey once the cup is warm rather than hot, or add a little jaggery while it simmers.

Can I drink it if I'm pregnant or on medication?

Please ask your doctor or vaidya first.
