Questions, answered plainly
Do I need to soak it?
Yes, for 30 minutes. Millets cook more evenly and turn softer after a soak.
Can I add vegetables?
Yes. Carrot, peas, beans, spinach or lauki all go well. Add them before pressure-cooking.
What is in it, and what does it give?
Five grains and pulses in equal parts: every 100 g holds 20 g each of kutki, kodo and browntop millet, yellow moong and green moong. Per 100 g uncooked: 335 kcal, 15.4 g protein, 62.2 g carbohydrate, 2.5 g fat and 10.2 g fibre.
Can I cook it without a pressure cooker?
Yes. Simmer it covered in a heavy pan with 5 cups of water for 35–40 minutes, stirring now and then and adding water if needed.
